Drag it to Applications
Open the disk image and drag SideMount onto the Applications folder.

Open it, then look up
SideMount lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon, so look up and to the right.

Follow the guide inside
It walks through the rest and ticks each step off by itself as you do it. About two minutes, once.
What you need: macOS 26 or later, and a USB cable that carries data. A charging cable has no data lines and the phone will never appear.
The first launch
SideMount is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens normally: macOS asks once whether to open an app from the internet, and you click Open. If it refuses instead, open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
